This initiative started as a conversation between friends trying to find ways of addressing the needs of Kenyans affected by COVID-19 in America. These friends who represent Jamhuri News founder, African Warrior Magazine founder and KWITU founder then decided to float the idea to the community through a survey that was published and shared across Kenyan platforms in America Diaspora including diaspora news outlets, popular Whatsapp and Facebook platforms, and Twitter. It is then that it became a community initiative.
The goal of this initiative is to address the short-term effects of COVID-19 to Kenyans in America, and the plan is to dissolve it soon after disbursing and exhausting all the resources collected in this initial campaign.
For this reason, Kenyans in America COVID Relief Fund is using an ad hoc approach to the issue of COVID-19 in the Kenyan community in the USA. The initiative is an open community cause and anyone willing to be part of the team running it is welcome.
Other organizations involved in the initiative include Mwakilishi, Samrack Media, 254 Diaspora DJs Live in the Mix, WOYO & Global Diversity Consulting, and The Prudential Show. The individuals working on the project include the Wairiumu Kimani - CEO of Renton Divine Home Care LLC, Karanja G, 2016/2017 Face of Kenya in America winner and Non-Profit Management professional Judy Nzeki, Sacramento based lawyer Pablo Nzengu, and Dr.Dawn Becker, MD-an Assistant Professor of infectious diseases and Global Medicine at the University of Florida
